When one is suffering a bout of depression, it often helps to have distractions in the mix to take your troubled mind off of its…troubles… For me, those distractions often come in the form of films, some of which I’ve seen before, and some I’ve meant to see for the longest time and have just never taken the time to view.

Today, for instance, I’ve watched the classic Jim Henson production ‘The Dark Crystal’ because…why not…right…? It’s ‘The Dark Crystal’…and it’s a classic bit of cinema history, right up there with ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘Labyrinth’ in the annals of 80s fantasy films. For you younger kids out there, that’s pronounced ‘an-nals’ and not ‘a-nals’ (the Interwebs being what they are these days, it can be real easy to get the wrong idea about these things).

What’s interesting to me about the film, however, is that so many of its scenes and sequences were unfamiliar to me, despite the fact that I know I’ve seen it more than once before. Perhaps that means these parts of the film aren’t very memorable. Or perhaps it says more about my ability to retain memory.
