Gloria Steinem has a good take on it, in that erotica is more about mutuality and connection, whereas porn is inherently about power and dominance. If I were an educator, I'd probably start there, teaching young people to see each other as human beings and not as cliched objects of desire; because porn really does distort/warp the definition of desire to a fairly unreasonable degree to which most can not live up.
