Having read her bio, I don't think it was her flowers that empowered women so much as it was O'Keefe's tenacity as a brilliantly creative woman living in a world that didn't exactly value such people. She proudly did her own thing once it was clear that she could live as an assertive person without having to rely on others, and that is her value to the cause of female empowerment, in my mind at least.
