HELP WANTED!
…Because Consumerism has Gone Too Fucking Far…
It can’t have escaped anyone’s notice that the food service industry is in a bit of a sore state at the moment, specifically the fast food sector. It certainly hasn’t escaped mine. I took a bus trip across town a few weeks back to run a few errands and on the way home, I stopped at the local library to pick up a book being held for me. There sits a KFC a short walk from my local branch here on the East Side; and since I love fried chicken, I decided to get an order to go. Unfortunately, they were only operating their drive-thru service due to the fact that they didn’t have enough staff available to keep the lobby open as well. Good for my diet, bad for my mood, momentarily at any rate.
Yes, it seems the pandemic has changed some of our views about what makes life worth living. As it turns out, working shit jobs for sub-standard pay doesn’t pass the smell test on that one, as one Burger King found out recently. And why should it…? Would you really want to sling greasy burgers and and risk oil burns over a vat of hot fry oil so that people can piss and moan about how long their order is taking on a Friday night…when every drunk idiot in the city decides they need to ‘have it their way’, as the expression goes…?
If the fast food industry can’t find a way to adapt to this new sensibility, like…I…
