History in Review, Pt. 2
The Value in Doing: A Brief Look at Art and the Long Process of Evolving Creatively.
Well, now that I’ve shown you a bit of my personal writing history, it’s time to move over to the art side of my life and give you a brief glimpse of how far I’ve come as a visual artist.
This year marks an evolution for me, in terms of growth as a creative mind, and not merely because I’ve started writing on a regular basis here on Medium. For the first time in my life, I’ve taken a huge risk and accepted significant art commissions for pay. I can now say that I’m a professional artist, if not an insanely prolific one. I didn’t exactly seek these opportunities on my own, mind you. They fell into my lap, in one way or another. I’ll explain briefly, starting with the image you see below (warning: semi-graphic horror themes to follow) -
What you see here represents the very first commission I accepted this year. It is a solid concrete sculpture, slightly smaller than a bowling ball, which my first patron bought from someone in the next state. The left image represents the base coloring I completed back in February and the right image represents the layering work I’ve done just recently.
