I agree, you can't improve your situation if you can't even get out of bed. And no amount of wishing it away will improve matters. One of the more ignorant things people have suggested to me is to try harder. Difficulty is a relative measure, though, so while getting out of bed may not seem an impossible task to the average person, it can be an immense struggle for the person who has a body betraying them with mixed neural signals.
Medication is certainly not a cure all, this is true. I've been living with treatment resistant depression for about twenty years now. I've been on a whole host of meds, only getting marginal results in the taking. And I've had extended periods where I couldn't afford medication. So I know the score from both vantage points. The best I can say to anyone in treatment is to know yourself well, so your providers can better treat your mental illness. And never settle for a simple GP for your diagnosis. The better trained a medical professional is in a given area, the better will be the treatment options. So one should make sure they are under the care of a PNP, at the very least.
