It should be noted that this kind of bias isn't limited to christian sects. You'll find the same pig-headed tendency to appeal to personal feeling above all within any religion or esoteric belief system, whether it be in adherents to Buddhism, Shinto, TM, Astrology, Tarot, chiropractics, yoga, holistic medicine, paleo, veganism etc.

It's a problem of ego in humans at large, not just a christian problem.
