It's not hard to debunk the notion that a belief in the christian god is essential for morality to exist. The Civil Rights Movement was, at its core, a religious movement, fueled by a firm belief in the god of the bible. Hardly anyone alive today can be taken seriously if they claim that race-based persecution is ethical or moral, thus the black side of the equation in the mid-20th century was the correct stance. Once we accept that, and then look at the other side of the movement, at the white christians who lined up to vociferously oppose the CRs Movement, it becomes clear that a belief in the christian god is not an inherent contribution to defining what is and isn't moral.
