Joking aside, you aren't far off the mark in terms of general pop culture ouvre. It's usually style over substance once you get to a certain degree of visibility/notoriety/etc. Most good things in terms of music happen early on before fame overrides creativity. Hip hop is a prime example. Motley Crue is another. Most of their albums are a heeping pile of phoned-in garbage. Luckily they usually have one or two quality hits each disc to make you forget most of their catalog is mediocre crap and that they peaked before the 90s steamrolled glam rock into a pile of joke dust.
