Nighthawks will always be an impressive piece but it's not my favorite. Of his work, the works I like the best are the ones which capture a brilliant light, such as Morning Sun. I read somewhere once that he was quoted as saying his primary goal was to capture light, not emotion. As I am a former photography student, this quality forms the basis for my attraction to his work. I will have to try and dig up this reference again, though, and find the exact context.
Two of my favorites not shown here are Automat and Western Motel. Both are very impressive.
