On Creating New Words with New Connotations from Existing Word Constructs.

Coming up with interesting names to flavor your fiction is not the easiest of tasks, but it’s not as difficult as one might imagine. At some point we’ve all come across those quaint little internet memes that help you construct your Star Wars name, or your Game of Thrones name, or your “I’m terribly insignificant so I need a meaningless, non-utilitarian, external source of validation” name to pad the space on my InstaTwitBook feed.

In the end, it’s a simple matter of taking the time to use your imagination by playing with word constructs through the rearranging of letters into new and pleasing forms.

For starters, we can look at a name like Emma Stone (great actress, pleasing form). Rework the lettering a bit and you come up with Em’asto n’Me. It follows a similar phonetic flow in the first half, so you still get the same kind of charm in the execution. What can we say about a character with this name…? Perhaps Em’asto is a space pioneer, three months out from the nearest space port, seeking…
