She checked the status monitors on the stasis pods, all was well. It was 0730, ship time and they were due to make planet fall by 1600 hours; many things yet to do. As chief botanist assigned to the colony expedition, she was responsible for making sure the plant seeds and specimens stored in the cargo bay were safe for transport once a suitable storage facility and germination lab was constructed on their new home. The colony mission to the system Tubman-601 had taken centuries in terms of actual time, but only a few years had passed for the crew of the colony ship itself. It had been a tough decision for her to make, taking on this mission, but it was the chance of a lifetime. Only a fool would have passed it up. Still, she was constantly reminded that everyone she had left behind was by now long dead.

As she moved from one block of stasis pods to the next, her mind wandered briefly to the note tucked safely away in her quarters. It had been given her by her fiance the night before she embarked for the spaceport orbiting Jupiter, where the colony ship was preparing to venture forth into the depths of space. He had given specific instructions to keep it sealed until her first steps on her new home planet had been made. It gnawed at her more and more, what the note might…
