[CONTENT DISCLAIMER] This piece of fiction, which decided it wanted to fall out of my head before I fell asleep, deals with themes of cruelty, torture and revenge. If you prefer not to consume material of this nature, stop reading now.
It was a warm Saturday in June as I entered the doorway from outside and descended several flights of stairs to another door below. My cell phone lost any trace of a signal about halfway down so I turned it off and stuffed it into my pocket. I came to another, heavy door made of iron which was firmly latched with a strong bolt and lock. I opened it, stepped into a long dark corridor and moved forward to another heavy iron door. As I opened this one, a shaft of dull light poured out into the previous space, illuminating the cold concrete of this dungeon with an anemic glow. It wasn’t cold or dank down here, though it could indeed be a bit chilly were one not properly attired.
In the new space there were a series of doors to the left and the right, all metal, all firmly latched, all with a little sliding window at eye level. As I passed each door, I opened each window until I was standing at the last door on the left. I opened this door instead. In the middle of this square space there…
