Some Random Thoughts

A few things to ponder as the holiday season starts to rear its ugly head.

So it’s the Monday before the T day. Many people will, as expected, violate the Gluttony deadly sin later this week by gorging themselves on the usual customary comestibles. I for one, will not be involving myself in any overt rituals or traditions which are customarily associated with the holidays. For one, it’s all too commercial and the implied shame I experienced in the past from my ‘nearest and dearest’ for not being able to contribute to the toxic capitalist aspects of the U.S. Holiday season put me off for good the notion of celebrating the things we usually do this time of year.

That’s not to say that I haven’t thought of giving to people this year. I’ve been on a bit of a Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop spree of late, right here in the confines of my own cozy little space, putting together some colorful throw blankets for a few people I know. And there is some old artwork I have lying around that I plan on giving as well, merely because I know the people I’m giving it to will appreciate it. That said, I will probably never again involve myself in anything that explicitly says ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ or ‘Merry Christmas’ again. The most I’ll probably ever do is give a ‘Happy Solstice’ toast here and there and have a few delicious drinks.

There is no god. No one can demonstrate otherwise.
