There is certainly a raw, seedy quality to his work. My reaction isn't exactly a visceral one but I'm not exactly of a mind to want to continue examining the five pieces presented. Apart from the interesting color uniformity in Lady in Red and Portrait of Hardin, there's nothing here I like. Would be interesting to take a look at his larger body of work to see if my impressions hold.
