Yes, some of us care, but without resources to affect change, we have very little power to sway anyone who is in power. It's beyond obvious where I live that Republicans are never going to be swayed by reason, and the Democrats who represent me aren't able to do much either in terms of bringing the balance back to a more reasonable place. The best that can be hoped for is that the really toxic elements of the GOP get primaried because the more 'moderate' personalities don't like the associated guilt that goes with associating with the Far Right.
What's more, if I push back in a vociferous manner against the injustices I see, what some might call harshly, there is a very naive but self-righteous element on the left who will try and tie my hands by shaming me for being too mean and contributing to the problem. However, I have no choice but to 'be mean' because it's clear that more good speech is not enough to counter the extremely toxic bad speech which has infested modern social and political discourse.
Until the left starts presenting a more united front which actually cares about moving the divide between left and right in a more progressive direction, stagnation is the status quo.
The best I can do is vote for candidates I feel will do the right thing, hope they get elected and are able to affect affirmative change in government.
