You're off the mark on one thing. They do put forth effort in order to 'sacrifice' for their faith, it's just that what constitutes effort and sacrifice in their minds is anemic and pitiful when compared to real effort and sacrifice. For instance, I refer you to their finding virtue in offering 'thoughts and prayers' after a mass shooting or police killing rather than taking on the legitimate and much more involved work of advocating for effective measures against broad interpretations of 2nd Amendment rights, or better policing.
